I thought he was attracted to me and my long hair, so I decided to cut my hair instead.

TW: CHILD S3XUAL @BUSE, BULLYING, HARRASMENT

In 2018, I was watching something on the news channel where they were discussing Section 377, and that's when I realized I wasn't alone-there was an entire community out there.

I realised I was attracted to girls when I was 9, but I didn't know much about being queer,  so I spent the next four years thinking this wasn't normal. Three years later, after learning about Section 377, I did some research to try and understand what it all meant.

"Fir dheere dheere khud ko accept kiya."

Last year, I came out to my friends and siblings. While my sister and friends were supportive, my brother was quite homophobic about it. I've tried to support my queer juniors at school after taking a stand against the bul-lying and ostracism I faced from both students and staff. My seniors used to directly harass me and touch me inappropriately. I told myself, "Ab nahi ho raha mujhse, ab ye sab nahi hoga." Some of my teachers supported me in this fight.

Another pillar of support during this time has been my girlfriend. I wouldn't have been able to get through it without her, as she's been there when no one else was by my side.

"Woh jo karna chahte hain kar nahi sakte, khud ko log accept nahi kar rahe yahan pe."

My life has not been without difficulties. I was m0lested as a 4 year old by my neighbor and my cousin tried to s3xually @buse me at 12. I thought he was attracted to me and my long hair, so I decided to cut my hair instead. No one is educated about these things where I live. How would a 4 year old know ki uske saath kya ho raha hai? I was never able to tell my parents about what happened either but I managed to confront my cousin for once and for all.

People like Prarthna Prasad and Shams inspire me because of their self-acceptance and their ability to not care about what others think.

I still haven’t come out to my parents, but I’ve tried to make them aware of queerness by showing them movies with queer representation, and they seem to be okay with it. I'm currently studying Science in 12th grade, and I have plans to join the Army. I also want to start an NGO to support queer children who are afraid to come out to their families because of fear of backlash.
